Cancer – Plant-based Treatments

Plant-based cancer treatments refer to the use of natural substances derived from plants as a complementary or alternative therapy for cancer. Many plants contain bioactive compounds that exhibit anticancer properties, such as inducing apoptosis (programmed cell death) and inhibiting cell proliferation in cancer cells. Common plant-based cancer treatments include papaya/pawpaw, red raspberry capsules, resveratrol, myrrh, and yucca glaucoma. These treatments are often used in traditional medicine for their anti-inflammatory and analgesic properties. However, more research is needed to determine the safety and efficacy of these plant-based treatments, as well as potential interactions with other cancer treatments. It is important to consult with a healthcare professional before using any complementary or alternative therapies for cancer.

PYCNOGENOL/POLYBIOFLAVANOIDS

Pycnogenol, also known as pine bark extract, is a mixture of bioflavonoids extracted from the bark of the French maritime pine tree. Pycnogenol has been shown to exhibit anticancer properties by inhibiting the growth and proliferation of cancer cells. Studies have shown that pycnogenol induces apoptosis in cancer cells and inhibits angiogenesis. Pycnogenol has also been found to enhance the efficacy of chemotherapeutic agents such as cisplatin and 5-fluorouracil. Additionally, pycnogenol has been found to reduce the side effects of chemotherapy by protecting normal cells from damage. Pycnogenol is available as a dietary supplement and may serve as a potential natural adjunct therapy for cancer.

UKRAIN/GREATER CELANDINE/CHELIDONIUM MAJOR

Ukrain is a semisynthetic drug derived from the herb Greater Celandine (Chelidonium majus). Greater celandine has been used in traditional medicine for its anti-inflammatory and antispasmodic properties. Studies have shown that Ukrain exhibits anticancer properties by inducing apoptosis and inhibiting angiogenesis in cancer cells. Additionally, Ukrain has been found to enhance the efficacy of chemotherapeutic agents such as cisplatin and doxorubicin. Ukrain is commonly used as a complementary therapy for cancer, particularly in Europe. However, more research is needed to determine the long-term safety and optimal dosage of Ukrain.
